This took place very shortly after the lockdown in Eau Claire, WI, back in the spring of 2020. There wasn't any mask mandate at the time, but businesses that sold food were supposed to be open only for pick-up and take-out, with strict social distancing inside, and no sit-down eating or loitering. Olson's (an ice cream store in downtown Eau Claire) appeared to ignore that altogether. I've avoided them ever since, as I'm kinda Covid cautious. As you'll learn when you read the coming comic strips, someone very close to me is immunocompromised.
