I used to chat on the IRC, and I still want to chat like I always did. But IRC messed up my PC, and I switched to the non-downloaded IRC off of DD itself, which is now unable to be used. Anyone know of other free IRC that you don't have to download? I've looked, and for some reason, I can't find anything. (There should be one out there… :? )

Otherwise, I'd still be in that chat.

Is there an alternate port I can use to connect?

not that i know of. you could just leave the port blank on whatever irc prog you're using maybe.

was wondering if the java applet was ever gonna return. some people can't get mirc for whatever reason.

I was possibly wondering if anyone would be interested in creating a DD Rp chat room in the IRC. ^.^

Uhm, it can be one of those types of Rps where the room is already set with a setting 'n at, and all you really do is enter with your character and have at it!
Like so:

Chatroom title thing: Snowy Woods (where, it's kinda self explanitory >.>)
Person1: A stupid elf walks in, "Hello! I'm a dumb elf."
Person2: An awesomely awesome zombie stumbles into the setting and looks around for people.
Person1: Looks over to zombie and waves, "hi there!"

So on and so forth. Yay or nay? ^.^

Of course, rules would be put in too. >.> Liiiiiiike, no sex, over swearing, God moding, TOTALLYUBERPOWERFULCHARACTERS.

Remember, if the DD chat is dead or quiet, there is always someone in the Nightgig room

Just type /join #nightgig.

Furthermore, if you can't use irc to access the DD chat, you can use the nightgig chat applet (located on the site under "gigchat") and just type /join #drunkduck to enter the Drunk Duck room.

Pretty easy.

I'm still banned.

HMM… WHY WOULD THAT BE?

It's not his comics.

It's him. Or more specifically, the persona he has played in the chat rooms for the last 3 plus years, which keeps me from having any desire to interview him. Having had to deal with him in the Drunk Duck and Night Gig chat rooms, I have had my fill.

He has been abrasive, insulting, juvenile, and downright crude crass and just plain annoying. He pushes the line in everything he does, and unfortunately, the direction in which he takes things tends to rub most people the wrong way. He has offended to many people that I respect, to give him a larger audience (heh, all 12 listeners)

Funny thing is, one on one, Marine can be civil, and I have actually had interesting conversations with him. But as soon as he has an audience, it all falls apart.

I actually don’t have a problem with his comics, and do not doubt his intelligence, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he were really trying to make a point about the subjects he revisits, again, and again, and again… and again.

If I had never met Marine in chat, there may have been a chance for an interview. Given his longevity, and sheer number of webcomics he has created over the years, he may have actually made an interesting interview.

The Gigcast is not about cutting edge controversy and the social impact of web comics. It’s not a hard hitting in your face investigative report news show. It’s about finding what we like in art on the web, and letting people know about it, talking to the people involved in creating these things.

Scott is right about many things, including that we have the say on who we interview. In this case it will not be Marine. We may be wrong. History may show Marine as the Andy Kaufman of the webcomic world, But I’m willing to take that chance.

Hey .. you can at least quote your sources Marine.

That was from me, explaining why we won't have Marine on The Gigcast.

You got banned from the Gigchat for your actions within the chat, not for the reasons listed above.

I thought it had your name at the bottom but I guess it doesn't. I added it to the notepad file JT, and when I put it on my site I'll be sure and give the gigcast a link.

there are no irc rules put up, so i'll just copy these from the gigchat rules. (which i played a part in writing.)

Kickable/Bannable offenses:

Harassing others (comments against any person, sexual, racial, discriminative, or otherwise) will not be tolerated.
Impersonating another chatter/admin/mod will not be tolerated.
Excessive advertising of websites/comics/self will not be tolerated.
Excessive swearing will not be tolerated.

Etiquette:
Please type in semi-coherent sentences so that people in the chat can understand your questions. Excessive chat-speak or 1337speak is generally looked down upon.
Don’t be angry if the chat cannot help with your problem. Resort to the forums instead, where admins of the site visit regularly. People in the chat are not usually experts, unless they are.
(ed:) NOT EVERYONE USES THE SAME IRC PROG. Excessive use of COLORED TEXT annoys alot of the ops.

Its called a burn. On the internet people will call you anything and say anything about you, because they don't realize what you really are like. Sort of like a trash talker on a phone. If only they knew.
