I'm sure everyone has their favorite, whether in movies, video games, or real life. Nothing like have a giant weapon to really scare your enemy into submission. And in case that doesn't work, you use the thing to wipe him from existence.

After beating Ace Combat 6, I'd have to say right now the Chandelier would be my favorite. Now if only they had a way to move/turn the thing…

I've always enjoyed using shotguns, in video games for killing people, and in the real world for skeet shooting. I just love the damage it causes, and I don't mind that it isn't long range. I just love to blow shit up.

The comic really sucks, but I like the gun from "Superman at Earth's End" because of how absolutely ridiculous it looks.

Yeah, that's who I most identify the name with too :(
That was a lovely book!

Heh, I can imagine Barvo commenting here about a smooth bore 120 mm tank gun or something :)

For real life big guns the modern genius of them all was the great Gerald Bull. Truly a mad genius level engineer of ballistics- A very clever Canadian fellow and the premier expert world wide on the science of big artillery with no apparent equal- not with an interest in the destructive aspect, just perfecting the techniques. He was assassinated by Israeli intelligence. -_-

My Pinky TA has it's own resident BFG… Pinky's Flame rifle:

It's a long range, high powered, flame gun. -Not one the primitive gas hoses on a stick with a lighter on the end like in TF2 or Hollywood movies. This projects a jet powered vortex of fire … Just as made up but probably more useful and definitely more flashy. :)

It's also apparently fuel efficient, unlike the flamethrowers used in WWII. :)

Heh, even WW2 ones had longer range than the silly ones in movies and games- they sprayed flaming liquid, not gas.

The tech with Pinky's gun is that the fuel consists of two highly compressed liquids in that small cannister. Those are then mixed with atmospheric oxygen in the barrel…
Bu the cannister is only good for a few shots. For sustained fire you can hook up two toughened steel hoses from the base of the canister to a small tank. For multiple shots you can also carry more of those cannisters- throw away the spent one and attach a fresh one. ^_^

So THAT's how it works!

I'm a bit of an extremest.

I really enjoy the shotgun AND the sniper rifle.

I would say that when given the choice, I enjoy going sniper first but this isn't always an option so I also like the shotgun

Ah-ha! Then you'd probably be wanting the XM-109 25mm Barrett payload rifle

-Hits much harder than any shotgun ever could, with an effective range of around 2km and a maximum range of over 3.6km it can deliver a large high explosive round with a great deal of accuracy.

…hell of a recoil though.

the GAU-8 Avenger is the finest gun ever made, on the finest sub-sonic bomber ever made and i'm at a loss why they keep trying to make new designs utilizing fancy equipment that hasn't yet panned out instead of ordering more of such a sure bet.

hell, i want GM to make a tank based around that gun, too.

and i'm talking about a real weapon.

I know, just considering my avatar pic, though, I couldn't resist.

Anyway, as far as real-life weapons go, I'd have to put my money on the Atchisson Assault Shotgun (AA-12)

Standard version uses 12-guage shot with an 8-round box clip or 20-round drum. They also have variants that use 00 buck shot, #4 bird shot, and 12-guage slugs, as well as special FRAG-12 exploding rounds. They also have dual-mounted versions for the H2X-40 Turret.

I tend to have a strange obsession with excessive firepower.

If we're talking about super weapons, then I think I like Megalith from Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies, if only for the song that accompanies the assault you make on it.

And I love that AA-12 now thanks to Modern Warfare 2!

I take it Pinky doesn't like being in a video game? :)
since every character in the game that can be played has a unique weapon I want to make sure they work the way they're suppposed to. Gotta do the design document before you get down to making the game, y'know. :)

And Dave, that's one heck of a shotgun. Possibly better than the Saiga repeater I keep hearing about…

Oh, that's ok :)
hell, i want GM to make a tank based around that gun, too.
The high rate of fire isn't suited to a tank role. A tank wouldn't carry enough ammunition… Plus, it's hugely heavy and complicated. A simple tank gun carries enough punch to do its job, it's not too complicated and it's a lot lighter and smaller in mass.
There was an anti-aircraft tank called the vigilante that had an even bigger 37mm Gatling type gun, but it was passed over in favour of missile systems. It only carried enough ammunition for less than a minute's sustained fire. I think.

The Russians have similar guns in similar roles.

The avenger is also used in the Goalkeeper CIWS on ships. ^_^
-Mainly European ships since its a Dutch design. The gun is still supplied by GE though.
…think of how far Edison's light bulb company has come. O_O
I don't think of Edison as a clever inventor. He was more like Bill Gates: A decent innovator but an extremely shrewd businessman in his field.

The size of the damage matters more than the size of the gun.

The big cannon in Serious Sam was fun. It could bowl cannonballs the size of volkswagons through entire platoons of monsters.

I don't use the big guns a lot unless things get nuts. I'm a pistol/shotgun guy, old school gunslinger shit. I am from Arizona after all.
