Transforming Conceptual Art into a Plush Doll

kawaiidaigakusei at June 1, 2015, midnight

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled on the website of Alex Furmansky, the creator of Budsies. He is an entrepreneur whose business is centered around transforming "kid" art into real tangible plush animal dolls. It is pretty awesome:

Furmansky was raised from very humble beginnings and would take the art that his younger sister drew and "bring her drawings to life". This idea is the basis of Budsies. Anyone can design a concept for a stuffed animal, upload the image to the website, and then the image is converted from a drawing into a stuffed animal made out of hypo-allergenic fabrics and crafted by a skilled seamstress. After around nine weeks, the toy arrives at your house in the mail.

This could be a very exciting way to take a drawing from an original webcomic and have it stitched into a plushie. I do not believe the custom plushies designs are limited to creations made by children (they even specialize in pets and human plush dolls). I have never researched the cost for having a conceptual drawing made into a toy. I do know that many times, factories expect a minimum order before they even agree to sewing the first one which would surge up the cost to make it more of an investment instead of a novelty.

The icing on the cake is that a portion of the profits of the Budsies company give back to children interested in the arts and purchases art supplies to donate to schools. I always admired the art of young children because their imaginations are always so wild. This is definitely a project that gives special attention to the individual and respects a creative mind.

You can see some of the previously created Budsies on the website and see how amazing it is to see kid drawings brought to life.
