Tantz Aerine, Pit Face and Abt Nhil join Banes and Ozone to discuss the kinds of comics that are good intros into the medium for people who aren't into them: Gateway comics! You know the sorts of people; “Comics are for kids”, that sort of thing. Well the idea here is to show them different! What comics would convince someone to give the medium a second glance? What comic or strategy could possibly convent people to the glorious cause of comics? Tantz, Pit, and Abt tell us what they think, we also read what HippieVan suggests (the topic creator), and the people who contributed to HippieVan's original newspost.

tupapayon: I'm practicing every day... to little avail ;)

The Neal Stephenson novel Snow Crash is very entertaining and a little intellectual. It was written very much in the style of an alternative comic- I feel that type of writing could help get someone into comics, if you gave them an illustrated version of the same type of stuff afterwards... Also, music like Gorrilaz- the clips are very much in the comic style, because of the art of Jamie Hewlett. So it's a great into to stuff like Tank Girl if people are amenable to seeing more of the same style of work.

A friend gave me a copy of Whiteout. I never really read comics but I'm addicted to murder mysteries. I couldn't put it down. I also collect Case Closed manga for the same reason. (I was never really an anime/manga person, not the popular fantasy/sci-fi stuff anyway.)

@KL that sounds really unique. Gonna try and track that one down!

Another recommended! 'Shifter' by Brian Haberlin. Gorgeous painted comic - incredible realistic detail (the guy truly is a world class artist)!! It's about a guy who discovers a 'machine' that allows him to draw out life forms from Earth's history and 'mind-ride' them in the present. We see him 'riding' fearsome dinosaurs, a sasquatch-like humanoid, and lovely (in a wild way) stone-age woman. Imagine a T-rex with a human's intelligence... It's a fantastic sci-fi action/drama!

Very entertaining quackcast… Pit Face's music analogy (anal what?!) was right, not everybody is going to be passionate for comics but they might b able to see them in a new light… and I like how I sound in a Greek accent… Tantz Aerine's voice reminds me, for some reason, those radio shows from Spain… Abt Nihil also does a very convincing German accent… how he does it?…
