Anyway, this time around, Banes, Pitface and I interview the creator of this fine work and he fills us in on his many classic 1980s pop culture sources of inspiration. Dario brims with a positivity, dedication and enthusiasm that is infectious!

This week we have VIDEO of the Quackcast again - a nice condensed 10 minute version. Quackcast 247 is all about what fonts to use for your webcomic, hand lettering, aligning fonts, likes and dislikes, where to find good fonts, what sorts of things to look out for and what to avoid. You can find a lot MORE in the font discussion thread linked bellow. The lovely Pitface and hilarious Banes were with me lending their clever insights.
Gunwallace gave us a rocking FUNK theme to the comic Fred Peterson The Mighty Warlord!!!

Episode 246 - Characters: Fictional Love vs Real Life Hate

Ozoneocean at Nov. 24, 2015, midnight
tags: Banes, by Gunwallace, Characters Fictional Love, Drunk Duck, featured comic Apothecary Supreme, Gunwallace, kawaiidaigakusei, music for Jesus 2016, Ozoneocean, Pitface, podcast, Quackcast 246, Real Life Hate, Tantz Aerine, Webcomics community

Characters you would love in media but hate in real life!
In this Quackcast, once again we have an ensemble cast of Banes, Ozone, Pitface, and Tantz Aerine, but THIS time we were also joined by the talented and studious kawaiidaigakusei! We wanted to talk about fictional characters we love in fiction but would hate if they were real. It was sort of an extension of last week's Quackcast topic, with that fiction VS reality vibe.
Gunwallace's gospel themed theme for Jesus 2016 is hilariously great!

Episode 245 - fiction influencing reality and the myth of the friendzone

Ozoneocean at Nov. 17, 2015, midnight
tags: Banes, by Gunwallace, Drunk Duck, featured comic 0Uuzarus0Redemption, fiction influencing reality, Gunwallace, kawaiidaigakusei, music for Entanglement, Ozoneocean, Pitface, Quackcast 245, Tantz Aerine, the myth of the friendzone, Webcomics community

In Quackcast 245 we TRY to talk about my idea that fictional characters, stereotypes, tropes and situations in media have influenced their counterparts in reality, and in a lot of ways helped to create them. Fictional stereotypes and tropes are made out of simplified models of things that happen in reality, usually by pulling together all the most dramatic, big, bold versions and then turning them up to 11 to make a new, more exciting fictional caricature, that NEW image is then spread far and wide and influences people to imitate it- a good example being the modern “cowboy”. This idea was kicked off by Pitface suggesting one of my characters looked like a douchey friendzoned character. I thought about it and realised that a real life version of this character (who's mooning over a girl in a relationship with another guy), WOULD be exactly as she described, also those characters are common to relationship comedies and so often friendzoned… SO that got me thinking: could the current crop of “nice guy” fedora friendzone exponents have based their crazy theories about relationships on images in the media? -since they don't have much relationship to reality yet they so closely match pre-existing tropes in movies and TV shows. Then we expanded the idea to other examples of media representations influencing reality.
Pitface, Banes, and Tantz Aerine join me on the Quackcast. Gunwallace does a lovely theme for Entanglement.

Episode 244 - Horror playlist

Ozoneocean at Nov. 10, 2015, midnight
tags: Banes, by Gunwallace, Drunk Duck, featured comic Leon, Gunwallace, Horror playlist, music for BARBARIAN ADVENTURE, Ozoneocean, Pitface, podcast, Quackcast 244, Tantz Aerine, Webcomics community

This week's Quackcast marks the end of the Halloweencasts! Late, I know, but we recorded these all in advance. We dressed in costume again, which you can see in our VIDEO. Banes as the arctic death wolf, Pitface as the evil Nancy Regan, Tantz as a fierce Greek pirate rebel, revolutionary warrior, and myself as a horrible, horrible glam metal rocker. The topic of discussion was inspired by another newspost by Banes, this time the subject was “your horror playlist”, so we chat about all the scary, horror themed stuff we enjoy around this time of year.
Gunwallace's theme was for BARBARIAN ADVENTURE, I LOVE this track! It's heavy and bluesy, reminiscent of Lenny Kravitz or Cream.

Yet ANOTHER Halloweenie cast! This time we used Banes' newspost for inspiration and we talk about the difference between horror, terror, and revulsion in horror themed media along with examples of that in our own comics. We dressed in costume AGAIN, this time Tantz is Zoe from her comic Wolf, I'm Jack the Ripper, Pit is a mouth-head mutant and Banes is the invisible man!
Gunwallace's theme this week was for Steel and Manitou. It's a haunting cowboy, desert night, mystical piece that perfectly matches with the theme of the comic.

Episode 242 - Scary Monsters or Serial Creeps

Continuing with our Halloween themed Quackcasts for the month of October, for Quackcast we decided to try and record a full length video of the event, with most of us dressed in hastily assembled costumes. The subject was about the different kinds of antagonist in horror films and which ones people like the best. We had many contributions from people!
We even have a full length video of the entire Quackcast. It's not great because I'm STILL learning with this stuff but here it is, probably the only full length vid of a quackcast I will ever do: https://youtu.be/Q8ZSBFqgXiE
Gunwallace has given us a smoky, groovy, late night rocking tune for the vampy comic Blood Bound!

Episode 241 - The Vampcast - Costumecast - Part 2

tags: Banes, by Gregcity, by Gunwallace, Drunk Duck, featured comic, Greg, Gunwallace, kawaiidaigakusei, Ozoneocean, Part 2, Pitface, podcast, Quackcast 241, rated T music for Throviria, Tantz Aerine, The Vampcast Costumecast, Webcomics community

I vant to suck yer blud… Well Tantz Aerine does anyway. This is the second part of our Vampcast, talking about vampires in comics, lore, movies and popculture in general. We were STILL in costume, watching each other on vid at the time, getting distracted and Ozone was getting drunker and drunker on some very RED wine. Tantz was of course the vamp, Pit was a deathknight fairy princess, Banes was the scary polar werewolf, and Ozone fieldmarshal bigpants! You can see the vids of our exploits I uploaded last week. There exists an elusive 3rd vid, but we were all too drunk and tried by that stage… at least Ozone was.
Gunwallace provided us the lovely Alt rock '90s style theme to the SciFi anime comic Throviria!

Episode 240 - The Vampcast - Costumecast

Ozoneocean at Oct. 13, 2015, midnight
tags: quackcast-240-the-vampcast-costumecast

Happy October, the month of Halloween! For this quackcast we had Tantz Aerine and Pitface along and we did the entire thing full dressed in costume WHILE vidcasting, which was very distracting. We got a few minutes and iffy quality video of the event too. Unfortunately I'm not very skilled with the process yet. We chat about vampires, using the great contributions of the community! Vampires are fun, but what's MORE fun is costumes. Tantz was a librarian vamp, Pit was a deathknight fairy princess, Banes was a werewolf, and Ozone (me) was a costumed idiot.
Gunwallace provided us the lovely theme to the vampy comic Danielle Dark!

Last week Tantz Aerine and Pitface told us about how they came up with a visual look for their comic worlds. THIS week members of the community weigh in and give us THEIR perspective on their perspective… views of their comic environments. We have very interesting views from al of them! Oh, I apologise for the saucy repartee between Banes and I at the start of the Quackcast. We're very bad people.
Gunwallace's theme this week was for Trevor Mueller's Award Winning Albert The Alien! With lyrics by Gunwallace and spoken by an Alien, not Albert.

Episode 238 - Draw your world

Ozoneocean at Sept. 29, 2015, midnight
tags: Banes, BARBARIAN ADVENTURE, by DarioCOMICS, by Gunwallace, Draw your world, Drunk Duck, featured comic, music for Monday Monday, Ozoneocean, Pitface, podcast, Quackcast 238, Tantz Aetine, Webcomics community

We had a Quackcast about creating your world a while ago, but that was mainly in terms of writing. Some people touched on the visual aspects, Falopian Crusader among them, and Usedbooks showed us her city map.
For this Quackcast we discussed creating the LOOK of the world your story takes place in. Whether that's just the flat scenes with a few props you get in a comic strip or the whole city you get in Tantz Aerine's Without Moonlight. Do you do research? Just base it all on imagination? Draw what you know? Do you do designs for buildings, floor plans, interiors, the objects within the room?
What about the colour choices of your environments - Do you go for a unified scheme or just do whatever? Pitface and Tantz Aerine joined us to tell us how THEY do it.
Have a listen to Gunwallace's quirky theme for the slice of life comic Monday Monday!

For Quackcast 237 we asked people about the songs that inspire them when they do their comics, which songs go with which parts of their comics, what would be the ideal comic movie theme, what songs or music get you in the MOOD to do your comic, and finally; just how great are Gunwallace's fantastic comic theme tunes?
And speaking of theme tunes, the masterful Gunwallace has given us a Salsa theme for Taco El Gato!

Pitface, Banes, Tantz Aerine and Ozoneocean reunited for a repeat of the legendary Drunkcast of Quackcast 137! Almost exactly 100 Quackcasts later we hit the booze again, but this time we had a goal to pursue with our drunken ramblings: music. We decided to talk about what themes inspire our comics, inspire us and represent our comic characters… and we came up with a LOT, too bloody much for me to link to dammit! We've also included all the links to the Quackcasts where themes for our comics appeared, AND Gunwallace has done the theme to Putrid Meat so it means ALL our comics have themes now!!!
So enjoy our silly drunken chatting, this is who Drunk Duck Quackcasts are SUPPOSED to be!

Episode 235 - Climax of the Climaxes

tags: Banes, by Gunwallace, by snowshadow, Climax of the Climaxes, Drunk Duck, featured comic, music for Busty Solar, Ozoneocean, Pitface, podcast, Quackcast 235, Tangled River, Webcomics community

Pitface joins Ozone and Banes again for the second and last part of the climax cast! It's the climax of the climax casts!! We discuss what people think about climaxes in stories, their own and those they watch or read. It's hard to write up to climaxes and even harded to write down from them but they're a good way to pull in and then reward your audience. Different types of stories have to use different types of climaxes, i.e. long series may need to have one every chapter and then one at the end of the arc. You have to adjust to the needs of your story. We read great contributions from some very clever DDers in cool voices :)
Gunwallace gave us a gorgeous theme for Just Busty Solar the hilarious adult comedy strip~

Episode 234 - Climactic Climaxes!

Ozoneocean at Sept. 1, 2015, midnight
tags: Banes, by azureXtwilight, by Gunwallace, Climactic Climaxes, Drunk Duck, featured comic, music for Just Another Day, Ozoneocean, Pitface, podcast, Quackcast 234, Re Set, Webcomics community

What's best? One big climax, multiple small ones, early, or delayed? How much should you work UP to a climax? What about anticlmactic events, how important are they?
Climaxes are really important in stories. Often you work up to them over the course of a whole series, but each episode or chapter can have them, maybe even every single page. I find writing “up” to climaxes a bit stressful because you have a lot of preasure and expectation there. And when it's over and you've actually achieved it, it can be a bit depressing: where do you go to from there? You can feel a little lost, at least I do. TALKING ABOUT WRITING HERE.
My preference is for multiple climaxes.
Do you always need climaxes in stories? I don't think you do personally… there are times when things work fine without one, but it does help better with endings. Sometimes climaxes can be TOO big. Way too much of a story can be invested in a climax, it subsumes everything, everything has to tie in with that specific story flow and that can be REALLY had to pull off. If it's not done right it can be massively disappointing. Anticlimactic.
Pitface Joins Banes and Ozone to chat about climaxes in stories and read out the contributions from our climactic contributors.
Gunwallace gave us a gorgeous theme for Just Another Day!
