Come on down, it's Quiz time! For this week's Quackcast we had a quiz based on DD comics, as a friendly, fun way to try and promote them… there's even a bit of Drunk Duck history mixed up in the questions. Just a smidge. We had three contestants taking part for the honour of telling everyone else to suck it; Archaeologist Amazon Adventurer Artist Pitface, Psychologist Freedom Fighter Lawyer Comicer Tantz Aerine, and Scientist Philosopher Comic Group Leader and all around boob-fancier Abt Nihil. They all competed to the very limit of their abilities, striving for dominance against each other, employing every dirty trick in the book and even some new ones…
So please listen to the first ever DD bottomless Quiz!
Oh, and there's even some titbits about the totally mythical married life of Ozoneocean and Pitface.

Episode 171 - Let's do the timecast again!

Ozoneocean at June 17, 2014, midnight
tags: Banes, DD community podcast, Gunwallace music, Let's do the timecast again!, music, ozoneocean, Quackcast 171, The Adventures of Grumpy Bear and Mr. Goose

Hello! This is Banes from the future. I've come back to warn you of a grim, grim fate that awaits us all. Please go back in time and contribute to the Quackcast on the subject of time travel. Last time, you didn't contribute and it DESTROYED THE DAMNED WORLD!
We can't allow this to happen again. This Dystopia is a true horror. All the toilets operate backwards. A nightmare!
We asked people what they thought of the mind-bending story device of time travel, what variations of time travel stories they liked, what variations they disliked, or weather they dislike Time travel altogether (some people do).
We also wanted to know their favourite time travel stories (or experiences, if they happened to be a real time traveller), what movies, books, comics, songs, or whatevers about time travel did they like, dislike, and why? We had some good contributions on this fave story theme and it also gave us a chance to chat about some of the great time travel stories in pop-culture that abound!

Episode 170 - The REAL Chatcast!

Ozoneocean at June 10, 2014, midnight
tags: ATHENA SCULPTURE, Banes, DD community podcast, Gunwallace, kawaiidaigakusei, Mr Neil, music, ozoneocean, QUACKCAST 170, the REAL Chatcast!, Trantor

Kawaiidaigakusei came up with a great idea for a call-in show… That didn’t entirely work out so we did a “Harassment show” instead, where we phoned various duckers till we could finally get someone to talk to us. Seriously, we were desperate!
All the people we called utterly destroyed us on our running fridge gag…
Tantor tells us about the neolithic days of webcomics and the early days of DD! Such comics as User Friendly and watching porn comics on an Amiga!
Kawaii hit us with some profoundly interestings questions on making money vs doing what you love, the madness of creative people, and how much your creative product can influence you emotionally and how much it needs to in order to get you interested in creating it. And finally Mr Neil tells us about using Mark Crilley’s how to draw videos, his great superhero comic Dasien, and an artist’s need for feedback from other creators in order to stay interested in their work. He also talks about his work with Kittyhawk, author of SGVY.

Episode 169 - The Chatcast!

Ozoneocean at June 3, 2014, midnight
tags: Banes, DD community podcast, Gunwallace, music, Othersiders, ozoneocean, QUACKCAST 169, the Chatcast!

In this fake Chatcast, Ozoneocean and Banes receive calls from their versions of various duckers who ask many interesting questions such as "Where do you get your ideas from?", and "Where do you get your ideas from?", and the always popular and thought provoking enigma of our time; "Where do you get your ideas from?".
Our fake callers include Bravo1102, Skulbie, Lonnehart, Skoolmunkee, Ironscarf, Genejoke, and Pitface who called especially to tell us about her epic shoe buying expedition. We really had a marvellous time talking to all these totally counterfeit versions of these wonderful people!

Finally the last part of our Mecha and weaponry Quackcast, where we opened to the thoughts of the community to see what they had to say on the idea of developing and using weaponry and mecha in comics and how they go about it. We had some good discussion on the subject and some very thought provoking and intelligent opinions from obviously very well informed people; our DD community! Kawaiidaigakusei joined Banes and I again to talk this one out and provide some great opinions and insight of her own.
Here's a correction: Shinji's suit in Neon Genesis Evangelion is actually blue and white!

Episode 167 - Anatomy of a Villain

Ozoneocean at May 20, 2014, midnight
tags: Anatomy of a Villain, Banes, drunk duck community, kawaiidaigakusei, Ozoneocean, podcast, QUACKCAST 167, That's the way they do it, webcomics

Today we talk about villians! Kawaiidaigakusei made a newspost about villains that generated quite a bit of interest so Banes and I had her on to chat about them and read out some of the things our community members had to say.
Kawaii can introduce the topic in her own words:
I used to take the side of the cheerful, positive, and heroic protagonist in films and comics when I was much younger. As I got older, I wised up to the idea that being a protagonist is relative to biases of the storyteller. Now I rewatch those same films with a renewed perspective of what constitutes “good” and “bad”. Lately, I have been finding that more and more, I am a fan of villains.
I believe the reason we are seasoned to differentiate heroes and villains at a young age is to train our super-ego about rules and societal expectations. It teaches every Goffus that they should aspire to be more like Gallant. But living a hero's lifestyle by-the-book can be as boring as vanilla. For the record, I love vanilla, it is GOOD, but it does not make it any less boring. Emulating the characteristics of a supervillain feeds our id. It just feels good to break the rules.
Give villains a chance. Afterall, without a villain, there would be no need for a hero.

Episode 166 - Opinions on Weaponry and mecha

Ozoneocean at May 13, 2014, midnight
tags: Banes, DD community podcast, Gunwallace, music, ozoneocean, Quackcast 166 - Opinions on Weaponry and mecha, Taco El Gato is SuperTaco

Continuing our theme on Mecha and weaponry in webcomics we opened the discussion to our DD creators and they had some very interesting things to say! I fact there were so many interesting contributions that we had to split it up over two Quackcasts- this being the first. We start of with a little comedy quiz on what's mecha and what isn't and then play another great music piece by Gunwallace, this time a theme for Pinky TA! Very appropriate to the discussion… Then we launch into the great contributions!

Episode 165 - Mecha Madness!

Ozoneocean at May 6, 2014, midnight
tags: Banes, Drake the Cool Vampire, Drunk Duck webcomic community podcast, Mecha Madness!, Ozoneocean, QUACKCAST 165

Today Banes and I have a little talk about weaponry and mecha in webcomic- how do you come up with it? How much research do you do? Should it actually work? Is coolness the only factor to consider? How detailed do you go when you design it? how far away from reality and cartoony is appropriate?
We consider most of those questions and a few more, there's a LOT to get into on a topic like this and we really only just barely scratch the surface! In my own webcomic Pinky TA I've done a LOT of research and design work to get my mecha and weaponry looking right, so this is a subject dear to me. But we all have our own opinions on this, not just in webcomics but in games, movies, anime, and manga. I would love it if people could contribute their ideas in the comments here or on the DD forum here: http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/forum/topic/176137/

tags: Abt Nihil, Banes, Drunk Duck webcomic community podcast, Live Play, Operation Moon 2, Ozoneocean, Pit Face, QUACKCAST 164, Tantz Aerine, The Chronicles of Bucky O'Neill

A very SPECIAL episode! For this Quackcast Pit Face, Abt Nihil, Tantz Aerine, Banes, and Ozoneocean perform the sequel to last years Live radio play, with; Operation Moon 2! It also carries on nicely from the continuity of the last three SciFi Quackcasts.
After the adventures in the alien hunted diner, the two Hill-billies, Daisy Dooks and her pervy old uncle Hayseed are in the custody of two sinister aliens, Palavi Kuklamu and Fritzi Von Horstheim. Their path is about to cross with the devilishly handsome space rogue Ozoneocean and brave Captain Banes!
It's great fun to record a live play like this with all your actors doing their thing at the same time, nice and quick too. Editing is more of a challenge this way though. It's also specially challenging to write the whole thing in one night!

Episode 163 - Hip to be shark!

Ozoneocean at April 22, 2014, midnight
tags: Banes, Capefall, Drunk Duck webcomics podcast, HippieVan, Hip to be shark!, Ozoneocean, QUACKCAST 163

HippieVan, one of our wonderful news admins, made a newspost about the latest Archie comic sales tactic/plot device, killing off Archie, in the context of "Jumping The Shark", and it was quite a popular topic of discussion. Jumping the Shark is the term we use for a TV Series (but it could be anything), that has reached a bit of a creative desert so the writers attempt a silly stun or the introduction of a new character or theme or something that breaks the narrative and the story dynamic, all in an attempt to re-energize the failing series. Sometimes it works, but often it's a sign that the thing is on its deathbed. And that's what Hippie joined us to talk about: Shark jumping! In the meantime, we find a shark of our own…

Episode 159 - Shades of DAJB

Ozoneocean at March 25, 2014, midnight
tags: Banes, Ozoneocean, QUACKCAST 159, Scratchproof, Shades of DAJB

In this Drunk Duck webcomics podcast Banes and I interview DAJB, a long time Drunk Duck regular! We talk to him about his work on the long running webcomic "Shades". This is especially interesting since DAJB approached this comic as a professional work; as the writer but also the producer of the project, interviewing and hiring artists to work with him on the full production of the comic. Shades is a very British superhero comic, featureing a number of interesting characters such as the Celtic warior queen Boadicea, or "Boo" as she's affectionately known, battling the forces of darkness in the modern UK. It's very exciting, fast paced and well written! Give it a read if you haven't seen it already :)
*I have to apologise for the sound issues here; it seems it recorded my (ozoneocean) voice with a delay so the conversation seems slightly out of order.
