The Manimal Chronicles are single frame animal sketches. It started with Rebellious Worm, where I thought it would be funny to have Florence represent teenage rebellion/angst by getting a piercing that his parents would disapprove of; a fish hook.From there, the idea was born to use a certain sketch style – showing animals [often looking bewildered] in an anthropomorphic light, with some text offering insight into the situation.Each picture represents a theme…some on the lighter side, such as a fear of heights [Doomed Goat] - or a more politically driven undertone, as seen in Daring Donkey. The main criteria for creating a Manimal are rather simple. Find a situation that presents itself in everyday life (e.g., social anxiety) – think of an animal that may reflect this well…how about aLobster who’s afraid of hot tubs? And expand by making a drawing that hopefully makes you laugh & think at the same time. Lastly, language is important. Since I've decided not to have any actual “speaking” - all text must convey something. It should support the picture.
