Derek Joao Calixto (aka: spoonyliger; formerly known as Joao Pedro Gomes Calixto) was born in Lisbon, Portugal where he spent the first 16 years of his life until his parents brought him to the US in 2003. Derek has been drawing ever since he was an annoying little toddler… then again, so has anybody else. The point is he has stuck with his childish behavior and drawing-affinities up to his adult years. He grew up with the early 90's video games and comics. The thing is, even though he knows about them, he didn't read much of Marvel or DC comics. He grew up with other comic books like Disney comics and his childhood favorite series, "A Turma da Monica" (Monica's Gang), a famous brazilian comic book series. Then he got into things like Dragon Ball, Pokemon, and then moved on to Excel Saga, Trigun, FLCL where he started grasping the concept of Anime. After that, the US finally engulfed him in the whole Otaku experience. After he graduated High School, Derek went to college, got tired of it and in 2008 the first Moon Crest 24 chapter was out. Today he's got a self-published volume available for sale, and he's currently working on his second one. He hopes to be able to write a lot more Moon Crest 24 chapters in the future and appreciates any contribution and support his friends and fans can give him.
