2nd Shift
Author notes
Inside Zoe's Head
thoththegrey onI stole this idea from Robin (a DC comic). In it a character named Spoiler aka Stephanie Brown aka Robin IV kept a diary. The writer would show small bits and pieces of it the way I show Zoe's here, using it as narration. I'd later expand on this and do entire pages as Zoe's diary.
Little bits and pieces. The monochrome people are a recurring theme in the comic. This time, they are all copies of Az. There's some symbolism there: Az is his own worst enemy in a lot of ways.
2nd Panel: That's a 5.25 floppy disk, for those of you too young to remember them. They were the major way to store personal computer data for quite a while and held somewhere between 360KB and a little over a meg, depending on the model. WordStar's was one of the big word processing programs in the 80s but has long since fallen by the wayside. You can actually open WordStar files in Word and WordPerfect.
3rd Panel: That's a little umbrella hat on her head. Yes. That's a her.
4th Panel: The problem with being open all night and having a bathroom? You get this. All the time.
5th Panel: The two worst customers at a copy shop are people looking for a job or people getting ready for weddings. Both are so hyped up that they're convinced any imperfection will ruin everything. The spot on the resume is why they don't get the job. The single mispelled word on the program spells doom for their marriage.
The lightning in the last panel… a nice foreshadow of what's to come.
