3PF had a fairly productive day today. I managed to get a new comic done as well as a special page for the enternally under development EEC website. I'm hoping that some other projects will pick up as well.

Mini Rant

Recently I was looking at a picture of a skeleton warrior, specifically the Dimir House Guard card in one of the Magic the Gathering sets. Anyway I saw this skeleton guard and I got to thinking, “You’ve got to be a pretty secure man to wear an outfit like that, even when you’re dead”. Then suddenly it occurred to me that perhaps this skeleton was female. I mean I guess if it was a girl in that outfit it wouldn’t be that bad.

This suddenly made me wonder, did I automatically assume all undead or otherwise androgynous beings to be male simply because I am male? Would a female looking at the picture assume it was female? Would she assume other androgynous creatures to be female? Would she like the outfit? These were clearly some questions that needed to be answered.

As is traditionally in all maters of quasi-scientific inquiry since the time I was old enough to say inquiry, I started by asking my parents. They, in turn, responded with their traditional reply of “What?”. After explaining myself and waiting for my dad to stop making fun of all things fantasy, sigh yes the jock/geek dynamic supercedes even the parent/child relationship, they both agreed at first they thought the skeleton to be a male.

I intended to then ask them about dragons next but their tolerance for things about me they don’t get about me ran out as my bother started bleeding from a self inflicted injury thus my further research was halted. (Which turned out to be a good thing because they later asked my brother to clean the kitchen instead of me.) This problem still rather vexes me, I mean when a horrible alien leaps out does everyone assume it is a ‘he’ or do guys say ‘he’ and girls say ‘she’ or do people just say ‘LIGHT IT UP MARINES!’.

My brother took a more scientific approach and tried to analyze the skeletal structure, shortly there after he realized that it was drawing and so that was sort of pointless. My other brother bleed a bit which was probably the most I could have hoped for as a contribution.

About this point is…….I like pointless questions…………….er anyway I hope you’ll stop to give your opinion on this subject, I’m off for some much needed sleep.
