This used to be a teaser for episode 3, but I tweaked it a bit and colored it before remastering episode 3's pages. The original cover was one of my first attempts at coloring, and it just looks way too old now.
A.D's third episode was the first I wrote and drew, between mid-2002 and March 2003; mostly because I hadn't figured out the overall storyline yet, and I had to establish that with the pilot – so I started with the first episode after the pilot. The story turned out to take three episodes to tell, so I subsequently drew eps. 3-5, then went back and wrote/drew eps. 1 and 2.
EDIT:
Fitz: Thanks for the question… It was basically a process of figuring out what kind of set-up was needed for readers to be able to understand eps. 3-5. When I did eps. 3-5 I worked intuitively, just following the characters' personalities, so in the end the characters determined much of the framework. Eps. 1/2 involved much planning, but I still had some creative freedom. There were many different drafts for the pilot which I abandoned in the end. They would all have been consistent with eps. 3-5, but they just weren't the best way to set things up. I went with what I figured was the smoothest and uncomplicated way, keeping the characters and locations involved to a minimum (some may think otherwise ^^), straightening the plot. There are actually one or two lines of dialogue which I changed in eps. 3-5 after I'd finished eps. 1/2, but nothing dramatic.
TheMidge28: Thanks a lot! There may be inconsistencies to come in case I overlooked them… be alert ^^
DAJB: It really depends on how intuitively I work… these days I tend to plan much, so there's not much room for inserting things. But I like to do that whenever I can. I inserted a brand-new page in ep. 4, about three years after I'd finished it. And I think it's natural not to adher to plans strictly when writing… at least my characters tend to have a life of their own.
