Hero or not a hero?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm always annoyed that a hero who dons a simple mask, or a cape and cowl, or even a pair of glasses can fool everyone around them into believing their dual identity. For the most part, no one notices.
I love The Tick because they explain the clothes as 'hypnotic wear' available only to heros and sidekicks.
