Why give away what you can sell?

I read this in a news article. Doctors prohibited a man from giving away one of his kidneys to a donor because his reason was religious in nature.
The really sad thing is that they performed this 'interview' after the recipiant got their letter stating they were getting a kidney. What a kick in the…well…kidney's that must be.
"Oh yeah, you know that kidney we promised…we decided that the guy's reason was all wrong. Not altruistic enough."
