All Hamsters Go To Heaven

Today’s comic was originally very different from what is presented here. The first “draft” (I use that term loosely because I did not actually draw it) featured a scene that I found very funny, but did not move the plot forward at all. In fact, I think it would hurt the image of Pam in some people’s minds.



With this comic in its infancy, it is important that all characters come across properly to the reader. For instance, when Mike is introduced, we find out that he was playing a Video Game all summer, ignoring DJ. While this comes across as a negative introduction, it is balanced with DJ understanding what Mike did.



Since this first episode does not focus on Pam, I wanted to make sure that her true character came out from the beginning, since this will be the first real introduction that the audience gets of Pam. With this comic, we see that she that it truly hurts her that the hamster passed away, but it hurts her even more the fact that she has to break it to all of her students. If anything, I really want readers to get that from Pam, that she is a caring mother figure.
