I could make a 'Born to run' joke here, but I just cannot think of one.

Sometimes I look at the sort of world that Age of Ends is set in and sometimes wonder 'Could I survive in it?' The answer is a big no. I'm barely athletic, rather lazy and hate even getting a little dirty. That makes me ask why do I like reading about those sorts of environments?

The most obvious and rather correct answer is because writers like myself romanticise them.

We focus on the nobility of the people. The heroes and the villains. The maidens and the whores. The status of the lords and ladies. Commoners on the other hand, we barely touch on their lifestyle, because they wouldn't have had it that good. Bugs crawling in their beds, getting robbed and murdered, having to work themselves so hard that they could have died just so that they could eat.

And we don't focus on the training either. Neless, Derneb and Zodek entered this comic as skilled swordsmen, but I didn't tell you what they had to undergo to get that level of skill. Imagine the bumps and bruises, the backbreaking labour, the absolute exhaustion those boys would have had to endure to become men of the sword.

So remember, next time you dream of being a knight or something like that, think about it and honestly ask yourself if you could have endured the training.
