DMH onNo fantasy series is ever truly complete without a summoning and some weird made up creatures. So, here you go.
So this past week or two, I've been searching online for a job with people who are putting together proposals to be submitted, to brand new comic companies looking for writers to give them something that will put them on the map, the next Hero By Night or such.
This has given me something to think about. Every person who has ever entered the comicbook industry got in on one of these jobs. Gaiman, Miller, Lee, etc. although I'm pretty sure they had to start on the art side, not the writer. Of these, there are four important jobs. Pencils (The actual drawing of the page), Inks (The clean up, to make the pages look nice and neat), Colours (Speaks for itself. Just there to make the pages pretty) and Letters (Text and speech bubbles). Of these four, I can only do the last three, but they are still necessary.
This makes me wonder. I know I'm not at the pro level yet on any of those jobs, but I wonder which one will get me into the big guys? Credentials from writing comics published by indie comics? My future awesome colouring abilities? Some inked pages that I did with pencilling samples from Marvel? Or will my text bubbles be too excellent to pass up?
So yeah, as you can tell, I have high ambitions. But, in the meantime, I'm just working with the new guys who, like me, are just starting out. I always believe you should do what you love. Well, guess what I love?
