I've decided to do some experimental pieces when I'm in between story-arcs for Air Raid Robertson. For this first one I thought it'd be fun to do a "Lil' Archie" type of spin on things.

I got the idea while I was doing that chibi pin-up of Air Raid Robertson and Ridley. However, I didn't want to do this in an animu style since I think it would've looked weird and phony.

At first I doodled around with some Charlie Brown and Calvin & Hobbes styled characters. They looked pretty stiff and awkward though. I think this suits Air Raid Robertson and Ridley more effectively.

My first sketches of Ridley still had him sporting a fake plastic moustache. As a matter of fact, the original dialogue for panel three involved Robertson mocking this moustache. I thought that was funnier than the line I ended up using, but I had to go with something once I decided to discard Ridley's counterfeit facial hair.

The prospect of an impressionable child tying a towel around their neck and leaping off a rooftop a la Superman seemed like something Air Raid Robertson would do as a child, so I went with that as a springboard. I think this came out rather nice.

The kick-off to Air Raid Robertson's next storyline will be coming next. (Honest)
