Air Raid Arfington Part 1

Air Raid Arfington Part 1

Air Raid Robertson
on

I already did a version of Air Raid Robertson where the two main characters are depicted as children. (Lil' Air Raid Robertson, with the last strip being the most recent example) I thought that it would be a natural progression of things to have an anthropomorphic version of the character as well.

Air Raid Arfington joins a long list of similar concepts that include Supermouse, Couragious Cat & Minute Mouse, Hoppy the Marvel Bunny, Captain Carrot & His Amazing Zoo Crew, and Peter Porker: The Spectacular Spider-Ham.

The first two panels of this strip echo the layout of the very first Air Raid Robertson strip. I thought that it would be a cute touch if I did that.

I originally laid out the bear to resemble a cutesy teddy bear form. However, I ultimately decided to make the guy look a bit more fearsome than that. I think this adds some comic impact to his Pooh Bear dialogue.

Since The Commander in the regular Air Raid Robertson strip is a centaur I thought it would be appropriate to make his counterpart a horse. His design is loosely derived from Mr. Horse on Ren & Stimpy.

I made a direct Peanuts reference by having Air Raid Arfington embark on a fruitless quest to shoot down the infamous "Crimson Count". Obviously, this is an homage and/or rip-off of Snoopy's continued failure to bring down The Red Baron.

This is also partially why I made Air Raid Arfington a beagle.

I believe the next strip will wrap up this storyline. After that we'll get back to our regular feature.
