Real Estate Nightmare Part 1

Air Raid Robertson
on

With Halloween on the way shortly, I decided that now would be a good time for me to do a nod to Creepy and Eerie in Air Raid Robertson.

Creepy and Eerie were black and white comic magazines published in the 1970's. Like Mad Magazine, they were sized so that they could evade scrutiny by the Comics Code Authority. (A then powerful censor board for comics) The material within was mostly composed of short horror stories done in the vein of 1950's EC comics such as Tales From the Crypt, The Vault of Horror, and the Haunt of Fear.

Even though they were clearly riffing on the EC stuff, I actually enjoy the material in Creepy and Eerie a lot more. The writing is a lot better, and I would argue that the artists on Creepy and Eerie were as equally skilled as Jack Davis, Wally Wood, or anyone else on the EC crew.

When laying out this page I really wanted to evoke the mood set by 70's horror comics. In particular I decided to emulate Gene Colan, who is one of my favorite comics artists. I have a long way to go before I draw anything that even remotely approaches his stuff, but I do like what I did here.
