Air Raid Robertson
on

This was meant to go up on Halloween, but since drunk duck was moving to its new server I had issues with updating.

I thought I was done with Halloween comics for the year, but this one leapt into my brain while I was grocery shopping yesterday. It's a good thing it did too. I knew I wanted to do a Lil' Air Raid Robertson page this week but I had no idea what the subject matter would be.

For those who are confused by Ripley's costume, Vampira was a TV star in the 1950's. She hosted a show that showcased B-Grade horror movies. Vampira would come in between commercials and make terrible graveyard puns while wearing a black wig and a tight dress that emphasized her bosom. After her show got cancelled she wound up appearing in Plan "9 From Outer Space", often stated as the worst movie ever made.

Vampira later sued Elvira for stealing her act. However, she ended up losing the case. The judge ruled that the similarities between Vampira and Elvira didn't count as copyright infringement. He also noted that Vampira borrowed a good amount of her persona from Morticia Addams.

This marks the second time a cast member of Plan 9 makes a cameo in an Air Raid Robertson comic. (A likeness of Criswell serves as the narrator for "Phenomenal Voyage") I suppose I could've used Bela Lugosi in "Real Estate Nightmare", but I went with Max Shreck instead.

I also made a Peanuts reference in the last panel. I suppose I can't help cribbing from Schultz when I do these Lil' Air Raid Robertson strips.
