Air Raid Robertson

I had wanted to do this page since the very moment that I dreamed up this story. It just seemed like a really cool idea to have Air Raid Robertson travel through an Escher-styled series of impossible staircases. It also seemed like a cool idea to have the sequence structured as a splash page. And, I also wanted to have various renderings of the characters appear simultaneously in different moments of time throughout the layout.

Naturally, I considered this to be a daunting premise. There were so many ways that this page could turn out cluttered, muddled, confusing, or unreadable. I was convinced that it was going to be a big pain in the butt to draw this page.

And, it turned out to be an even bigger pain in the butt than I thought it would be. I went through almost a dozen hours before I put down a draft that I was satisfied with. I went through more sketches and thumbnails than I'd care to count.

Throughout the whole ordeal there was only one thought that went through my head. "If I manage to pull this off it's going to be awesome. If I manage to pull this off it's going to be awesome."
