Dames, Danger, and Dissonance Page 5

Air Raid Robertson
on

More time passed between updates than I would have liked. On the other hand, I think this page turned out pretty well. I do believe that the mimicry of Frank Miller's Sin City style is coming along fairly nicely here. I would dare say that this page is the strongest one of the story thus far.

I tried to fit in two little aspects of Frank Miller's art in this page. The first is his penchant for putting white silhouettes up against black backgrounds. The other is to have a character's shadow imprint upon a brick wall behind them. I thought that these were both neat little touches in Sin City and I wanted to try my hand at them in here.

On the front of storytelling I am glad to say that I was able to move the plot along at a good clip despite only having four panels to work with. Sin City is considerably more decompressed than I am comfortable with exploring in Air Raid Robertson. Still, I want to keep the panel count fairly low if I'm going to emulate the Frank Miller dynamic properly.

Eagle-eyed Air Raid Robertson readers will recognize the figure with the mohawk firing the tommy gun at our heroes. He was the antagonist in a previous storyline and I've been waiting for an excuse to bring him back. This seemed like a good time.

However, this guy and his cohorts were not in my original draft of the story arc. I had initially intended to use some generic-looking gangsters as the villains of this one. As I kept pondering about the story, however, I was thinking about how it's important to craft and nurture a good stable of recurring villains for Air Raid Robertson. An adventure hero, after all, can only be as entertaining as the bad guys he has to fight.
