Dames, Danger, and Dissonance Page 14

Air Raid Robertson
on

It feels good to get around to the penultimate page. The last page is done and ready to go, so I'll finally be putting this one to bed tomorrow.
As I said earlier, the characters of Sticky and Judge Happy are much older than Air Raid Robertson. Most of their previous adventures were drawn when I was in middle school. Back then I didn't really pay too much attention to giving each character their own individual voice and I was more interested in squeezing as much quippy sassback into a page as possible. And yeah, I'm still quite fond of quippy sassback. Still, I really hate it when dialogue scenes seem more like one guy talking to himself through various bodies rather than a bunch of different people conversing. I especially hate it when I write a scene like that, so I keep striving to refine and define the nature of my characters.
It seemed natural for the Judge Happy/Sticky relationship to be that of a respected elder who is sorely disappointed in the young fellow he is mentoring. I think it works well enough for this scene, and I can mine this dynamic further should I choose to use T.H.E.E.Y. as the adversaries in a future storyline.
