My Hurricane Life Page 5

Air Raid Robertson
on

As you no doubt can tell from reading the page itself, this installment wraps up "My Hurricane Life". It took a lot longer to finish this up than I would've liked. I was delayed by my personal life, my college studies, a bout with the flu, and a nasty burn I suffered on my thumb. However, I was also hobbled by my relative inexperience with watercolor painting.

This story was initially colored with a layer of watercolor paint. After it dried, I added depth, shading, and definition with colored pencil. I wanted to try something new and, to be perfectly honest, I'm not exactly thrilled with the result. Then again, I have come back to pages that I believed to be misfires and then, in retrospect, found myself liking them.

There are a few more references I feel compelled to explain. The police officer in panel four is loosely derived from Wally Walrus. This character served as a foil for Woody Woodpecker in a few dozen theatrical shorts in the 1940's. I added tusks and a black nose to this design since I never really liked the Wally figure all that much. He, instead of appearing like a walrus, looked more like a deformed human with flippers instead of feet. (At least to me)

The last panel is, obviously, based upon the traditional ending to all the great Looney Tunes shorts of the 40's and 50's.

Anyways, I will be moving onward and hopefully upward in the coming days. I have a yarn starring Ridley in a solo adventure that I really want to tell. However, since October is coming up, I've decided to do a Halloween story first. It will have some common traits with the one that I did last year ("Real Estate Nightmare"), so hopefully you liked that one.
