It's been longer than I thought since I last put up a page. Sorry about that. My Halloween was pretty crazy. I hope you all had nice ones as well.
I had a hard time coming up with a title for this storyline. I wanted to allude to The Phantom of the Opera in some way, but I didn't want to directly state it since that would ruin the build-up of the first couple of pages. And then, as my brain was feeling at its most impotent, the shuffle mode in my music player selected "Plain Gold Ring" by Nina Simone. I always thought that this was a catchy title, and there was a lot of emotional weight centered on the gold ring Erik gives to Christine in the novel. So, thanks to serendipity, I had my title.
This page took a lot of work since I wanted to get the facial expressions just right. Being a (hopefully) comedic webcomic, I don't often come across the need to project pathos from the countenances of my figures. It's something that I feel that I have limited experience in. Regardless, I think the many hours of practice I pulled over the past few days helped to make Erik's weeping appear as well-executed as I could manage.
