I'm very pleased with the scripting process for this story. For the past couple of story arcs I've found myself straining with composing the dialogue. For this one I'm feeling much more limber about things. I'm even stopping to write down little patches of dialogue on scrap paper as I move along with my day. That's usually a good sign for me.

On another note, I have no idea how comic book artists got along without the internet. It makes finding references a whole hell of a lot easier. Hal Foster probably had to spend hours at the library looking up images of medieval jousting. All I had to do was enter it into google and then I had all the visual fodder I needed to craft panel two.

Speaking of graphic influence, it would be ill-mannered of me to not mention Gustave Dore. This gentlemen was an engraver who did numerous illustrations for classic literature in the 19th century. His printmaking for an edition of Don Quixote is often considered the definitive visual interpretation of the character and, naturally, this has played an important part in how I approached this story.

Panel four, as some of you may notice, is directly lifted from a Dore illustration of Don Quixote tilting at windmills. Since I pointed this out, panel four has suddently gone from being a "swipe" to an "homage". Isn't that a great scam?
