And that is Dr. Schaffenberger. I wanted this fellow's visage to be somewhat different from the faces I typically draw in this comic. While I was musing on about this I was also watching an episode of Community. And then, it came to me that Donald Glover has a pretty interesting face.


I usually don't care for inserting the facial features of actors into my comics. It actually really irritates me when other comics go overboard with that sort of thing. On the other hand, I guess doing it once in a while isn't a huge deal. And, it does help keep all the characters from looking alike.


If it isn't clear, the name of the doctor is derived from a Silver Age-era comic artist named Kurt Schaffenberger. Although a key figure in the Captain Marvel comics of the 40's, Mr. Schaffenberger is best regarded for his defining take on Lois Lane in the following decades. I went with "Schaffenberger" since it seemed like a fitting name for the doctor character.


And yes, Mr. Subliminal has appeared before, albeit only once. He was in a one-pager that poked fun at those old Hostess Twinkie comic book ads. You can find it in the archives if you want.
