Air Raid Robertson
on

Some time ago I was reading an article about mental illness. In it, a person who suffered from vivid delusions was giving an account of their hallucinations. One of them occured while she was watching Batman on TV. At some point, she was under the impression that Batman came out of her television and started having adventures with her. I came across this account over a decade ago, but the descriptions still linger in my memory. (It's odd what one remembers and what one doesn't)

The contents of that article have a conscious influence in the construction of this storyline. This page in particular spun out of the thoughts I had on the subject. It didn't come to me when I first contemplated this plot as a storyline in Air Raid Robertson, but once I had the idea in my mind it seemed like a critical aspect of the story's arc.

Plus, contrasting the "fantasy" bits with the "mental hospital" bits gives me an opportunity to inject a bit more color into the proceedings. After doing a couple of pages of greytones I had begun to miss the bright coloring. I guess doing one makes me want to do the other.

The figure in panel five is Krull-Gor The Mighty. He was Air Raid Robertson's adversary in his very first storyline. He also popped up again in "Phenomenal Voyage" and "Peculiar Parables". This makes him one of Robertson's most persistent bad guys.

I also referenced Robot Hitler in a brief conversational exchange during a scene in "Flights of Fancy". One of these days I should do a full storyline with Robot Hitler as the main antagonist.
