I'm not entirely happy with this page, mostly the dialogue between the captains. Hopefully it works well enough.

One thing that really strikes me with this story is that it is lacking in certain ways, something I hope to fix over the next few stories.

Speaking of writing, this was the first story I came up with for Albion and it has certainly evolved as I've rewritten it and expanded on ideas. The original concept came from thinking about how I could use the Ferengi in a familiar but different way that ties together their first appearances in TNG and their depiction in DS9.

Why Ferengi? Essentially because I had recently binge watched all the 90s trek shows and I was amused by the changes from their first appearance and fascinated at the development of Nog. Also Quark was one of my favourite characters in DS9. Also having read about various abandoned trek tv projects one had a scenario where the federation was greatly reduced and the ferengi had become the major power in the alpha and beta quadrants. Obviously this would be through commerce, but still seemed unlikely given how comedic they were portrayed. So what about Ferengi who weren't sleazy wheeler dealer types? I envisioned a Ferengi bounty hunter who was actually dropped from the story.

The concept I settled on was how would first contact by the ferengi go? They would use it as a business opportunity, obviously. exploitation, slavery maybe.
i had also come up with an idea of a race who built their ships out of salvaged technology so I tied the two ideas together.

As i started making pages I decided to make the opening more action packed to use the cerberus and around then I decided to change what had happened on the horizon in some way, so the idea of some survivors making it to a planet nearby came about.

From there it was all about adjusting my planned ending to fit the consequences of the changes made to the story. That in turn led me to wonder, what happens after? will it inform future stories? Does that fit with existing ideas I have?
