Yeah, it's a big deal she's wearing men's clothes. Cross-dressing is a serious no-no. Did you know that there were people who wanted to ban theater when Shakespear was writing? They thought that men dressing up as women or playing female characters would destroy society; their logic was that if men dressed up as women and women dressing up as men would lead to confusion as no one would be able to tell who was what gender. Clothes didn't make the man, they marked his class, station and finances back then.
