Okay, lets get a couple of things clear. Bernadette is a full vampire, there are no halfs, no in-betweens and no midway points; you either are a vampire or you are not. The only thing that will change (assuming Bernadette remains a vampire) is the amount of power she possesses and her proficiency in using it. Of course, the whole Mina Harker incident could have been a fluke, you never know.
About blood preservation. I'm sure you've surmised by now that blood doesn't last fifty years, even with refrigeration. That, however, is only if you want to use it in transfusions. Since transfusions would have been very, very messy back in 1810 a.d. (simply bleeding a person was still viewed as good treatment, I think), vampires don't have to worry about how old the blood is to drink it. In order to make it easier to refrigerate and give it different taste, they often mix it with other liquids such as wine, spirits or other alcohols. This mixing, even trying to preserve it, creates a blood that the vampire can consume but that does not really satisfy their need for blood. A vampire that subsists on this bottled blood is ultimately only starving themselves, but they would last longer than if they simply stopped drinking.
Being the cynical type who doubts many will read this, I'm putting this info in the volume 2 book too.
