About the mirror and reflection bit; it was mentioned to me that mirrors used to be made with polished silver and that was why they wouldn't have a reflection. Silver is regarded as a divine metal by multiple cultures (more so than gold. gold is associated more with currency than anything else)and was actually used in multiple remedies and cures. Have you ever noticed how most christian relics and crucifixes and the like are made with silver or silver alloy? Sometimes, priests would sprinkle silver dust in water when they blessed it.
