Barely SFW… I think.
When I started writing Anathema many years ago, I knew that the Duke of Wellington would be Bernadette's employer. I also knew that the Duke of Wellington was the leader of the English forces in the defeat of Napoleon. How did I know this? I never learned it and I never thought twice about the certainty I had in that knowledge. Did I guess? Was it a coincidence? Was it something more? I don't know and the thought bothers me for an unknown reason.
