"Is your mother proud of you?" I'm sure some villains get that question a lot. And this is the first time doc has mentioned her own mother in years. A combination of bitterness and from no one just asking.
Doc was never told why her mother left. To everyone, including other members of her family, it was so sudden and "random." So, doc did what was natural to most kids in her situation: took the blame for her mother running away. "It was because of me."
