I saw public enemy this weekend. This movie totally fucking sucked. It was a good story or at least a good subject. 3 out of the 4 action scenes were good as well. The first 10 minutes of the movie, as a matter of fact, were really fucking great. But it had these terribly long lulls, where it was just boring. The love story between johnny depp's character and who ever the chick was, was pretty dumb, I mean just bad, they tried to squeeze so much into these little 3 minute bits. I was also bothered by the way the movie tried to paint the FBI as the bad guys, like these violent murdering bank robbers were some how the good guys in this story, like they were trying so hard and this big mean group of people were hunting them down for no apparent reason, like they were the victims. Not that, that viewpoint can't be had or done, the movie just did a really shitty job of portraying that. Another issue was the the blatant waste of good, big name actors, the whole cast of this movie was big name, Christian Bale, Stephen Dorf, Giovanni Rebicci but the thing is, these guys had maybe a handful of lines each. I mean we're talking 30 seconds or less of screen time for each of them, except Christian Bale. They could have been played by anybody and were truly a waste of talent and time. The whole point was to make a movie, plaster these names to it and have people show up so a profit can be made. If it didn't have Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, selling tickets this movie would have been a disaster, now it'll at least break even or maybe turn a profit, but it is, by no means, a good movie. Granted I went into the theater a little biased, I'm not a fan of Johnny Depp, but don't get me wrong he has done some good movies, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Blow, What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I even like the way he portraid the pirate character in Pirates of the Caribbean, this movie still sucked, as did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Pirates 1,2 and 3 and a slew of others I don't care to mention. He needs to knock it off. No more Johnny, no more.
