A little more explanation about "null-space" here… it's like a meta-dimension with atmosphere and diffused light and a surface, but NO points of reference. If you navigate properly by dead reckoning and umm, "other" means, you can travel a certain distance in that dimension and pop out in a corresponding point on Earth. Pros: invisible, undetectable travel without physical obstacles. Cons: Very hot and arid, no water that you don't bring in yourself, internal combustion engines don't work, limited visibility without bright beacons or flares along the route, entry and exit can take a vicious toll on life energy with a real risk of death, EVERY time. You could also lose your way and die of thirst in the middle of a hot grey nothing. That's why nobody really wants to go there unless there was no other alternative.
