By Albert Bierstadt.(1830-1902)
Circa. 1865
Hudson River School

Unable to find wilderness in the East, Bierstadt was forced to go west in order to find strong landscape subjects. For months at a time, Bierstadt would travel west and draw hundreds of sketches. Then, he would return to his studio back east and paint pictures based off of his sketchbooks. In total, he would make three cross country trips around America for his art.
Most famous for his paintings of the Rocky mountains, Mount Bierstadt in Colorado was named in his honor.
