By Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986)
Circa. 1918
American Modernism.

Georgia O'Keeffe is special as she was one of the few American artists to have an impact on European art rather than vice versa. In the twenties, O'Keeffe was a major artist in New York as well as being married to Alfred Stieglitz, a famous photographer. During this period, she created many of her famous flower paintings such as “Blue Flower” which sold for over 25,000 dollars at the time. With such demand on her, O'Keeffe needed to find new inspiration and found it in Ghost Ranch, Arizona. Immediately, she fell in love with the land and not only would it be her full time muse, but also became her permanent residence. For over forty years, she would continue to paint the landscape and to everyone outside of the United States, her paintings became the body of the South West.
