That last panel is a dig at Shonen manga and how the character's hair always gets spikier when they start yelling or something like that. Don't worry, Caldara's not about to become a total cliche, though. Maybe more of a parody of one…

Also the word balloons on this page…they look kinda bad all forced in there.
