"Mate, it's not entirely overrated (And no, I am not just saying that because my girlfriend could walk in any minute). Company's pretty nice to have, some one who actually gives a damn about you for once."

Yes. I agree. Company is nice to have (not only "pretty" nice).

However… the problem is that the media makes it appear like a "must have". Like its the most goddamn important thing on the planet. As if without it, you should be sad. Heck… that is how an entire generation of emos are created.

When I was younger, I bought into that crap and it cost me precious time and money… and I posed a danger to myself. By shoving shitloads of alcohol down my throat and self-harming. Cuz I had a misconception that relationships ARE the center of the universe. Cuz I thought that relationships are the be-all, end-all of all existence. It made me turn a blind eye to the REAL problems.

What if the media will make it appear that… lets say… CARS are a "must have". Not everyone can afford a car. So as a result, everyone whose income is below $25,000 a year will feel sorry for themselves. What if… the media will make it appear that everyone should have HANDS. So… the dude whose arm got blown off in iraq should be sorry for himself?

Ironically, why is the armless dude from iraq still getting on with his life and doing somethin about it? Like joining the paralympics and feeling good about himself? While there are people with complete body parts that sulk and feel sorry for themselves all because of a stupid bitch… or asshole.

Simple… cuz army propaganda can have positive effects… like motivating the dude and telling him you lost your arm defending freedom… be proud you are a hero, etc… etc…

If the same type of "propaganda" was used at the common people, it will have the same effect of motivation.
