The Spires - iss01 p01

This is the first page of Part 1 of The Spires, my take on the fantasy genre. One of the rules I set myself for this story was that it would not take place in the "Brothers Grimm/Mediaeval" fantasy world that has dominated the genre since Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. I therefore designed a towering city-state (the Spires of the title) from the ground up.

As you can see from this opening page, Fabrizio Pacitti (the artist) and Bill Key (colourist) have done a tremendous job of interpreting that world in a way that could never be mistaken for Tolkien!
