The first part, what the customer said, was straight out of reality.

But my real reply was:

"Are you kidding me? I taught this guy everything he knows! He's just on step one of the looking hip process, I am way ahead of him. I'm way ahead of everyone. This slob look" gestures my everything, "is the future!"

I just didn't think readers would be able to "hear" the tone of my voice.
But I'll usually put stupid stuff like this in the author notes.

Just in case that hip hunk Gus goes, "nyuh-uh! that's not how it went at all"
