The Romans celebrated Saturnalia from Dec. 17th-25th. It was something
like Mardi Gras. Lots of depravity all all over the place.
There was also a popular religion going on called Mithraism. A religion following the god Mithras, who was born on the 25th.
No one really knows what day Jesus was born. But to get on the good side
of the pagans, the Christians adopted the date of Dec. 25th.
Hooray for the Pagans!
