Wait, is there a little silliness bleeding in from over there? The GOOB salute is intended to like the kind of salute a kids' clubhouse might have. GOOB might have absorbed some "after school club" anime tropes along with his porn or even an episode of The Little Rascals.

-Sorry Jerrie but the porn files downloaded into GOOB are over one hundred petabytes in size. That's 101,024 terabytes. So it could fit into the cloud storage of Amazon or Microsoft which is in excess of 100 petabytes.

-GOOB's storage capacity is measured in zettabytes so we're talking trillions of gigabytes. A mature adult is supposed to have total recall of all information and the ability to process trillions of gigabytes her second – far in excess of non-biological computing. Behind most of the computing in the universe are lots of biological bits and bytes with touch interfaces at the speed of thought. Anything more and you'll overload the person. Only so much you can do to a single mature human brain. And after millennia of experiment things averaged out to between how-much-you-can-have, how-much-do–you-need and how-much-do-you-really-want.

But somebody came up with the idea of putting it all into one thing that could walk around and realistically interact with its environment. Completely mechanical robots were severely limited. Biologically based androids had often been messy in the past. So the GOOB was yet another attempt to get past the messy. As we can see in the story they didn't get past the messy. But in a lab somewhere there is a member of the original team still working on the GOOB. But that's another story to be told at another time.

And there are also the Grey Guy attempts to get past the messy like the robofemoid but as yet it's only gone as far as the laser beam wielding mind-controlled topless android thing.
