Over the years I've taught myself to get motivation from losses. My offer to sell the collection was half serious. Stop comics? Never. If anything I'd put all my effort into The Last Straw. Here and now though I got motivated to start shooting my story for the Drunkduck anthology. Also been dusting off all my dark and gloomy special effects.

A gabby page, but this goes into a lot about Sara and her daughter. They're Aordians, not Earthers. So their cultural norms are different. As different as a space faring civilization with 10,000 years of unbroken history can be compared with Earth's narrow views.

Aordian children have eight years of primary education from age 4 to 12. Then they often are sent off their home planet for cultural acclimation to experience other human settlements study other culture and continue their advanced career education before starting their 4 years governmental service at 18. Governmental service is optional but those foregoing it give up the right to vote and hold any public office. Full citizenship is only for those who serve. It's a very old tradition going back to ancient militias.

This was hinted at in GOOB. Several of the women there were Aordians but not full citizens as they had foregone government service to enter into business. However, government service can be done at any time in a person's life. People are free to choose. Since Lora's mother is a serving officer it's expected she'll do her service sooner than later.
