The aliens are not the real villains.

There are conspiracy theories in the UFO community about the US government working with aliens to gain advanced technology and supplying the aliens with specimens in Deep Underground Military Bases. (DUMB)

Not sure if that is somehow a dig at those who believe these outlandish stories, but it does make for a nasty science fiction movie.
