Seth's parents met in a theatre company during their college years in Connecticut. After college, the two married and moved to New York City, where Rosenhaus started a small production company and Moss continued to work in acting from theatre to television. Seth was quite adept to the busy schedule of his parents and often traveled to foreign places with them. His academics never suffered and they managed to remain a cohesive family unit. Despite this, and his parents' growing success in the entertainment industry, the couple began to grow apart. Moss' star power grew quicker than her husband's and by the time Seth was five years-old, his parents were divorced – At the time of the divorce, Ms. Moss was busy with several blockbuster films and thus, decided to diminish her custody rights to Seth. Simultaneously, when Rosenhaus' production company began to expand, he decided to relocate to Los Angeles where he gained full custody of Seth.
Upon arriving in Los Angeles, Phillip hired and began dating production designer, Jillian Wing. Ms. Wing, who was in the middle of her own divorce, also won custody of her two daughters. A few months after the divorce was final, Phillip and Jillian were married.
During Seth's fourth grade year, Phillip's production company fell on hard times and there was a drop off in TV and film projects. Though he was able to make a decent living, Mr. Rosenhaus was unable to sustain his household (And Jillian's expensive tastes) to meet his finances. To save money, Rosenhaus downsized his production company and made budget cuts at home. Rosenhaus also considered withdrawing his children from Eastridge Preparatory, an upscale private school in the San Fernando Valley. Due to the volatile response from his wife regarding her daughters being dropped from Eastridge, Rosenhaus balked at the idea. However, Seth volunteered to leave Eastridge Prep only if he could pick the public school that he could attend. Seth chose Mulholland Elementary, a small, magnet/fundamental school just across the street from his father's production company in Studio City, California.
The summer before beginning his fifth grade year, Seth took a series of aptitude tests – a standard practice for new Mulholland students. Seth tested remarkably high for his age. So high, the district made a recommendation to have Seth accelerated one grade level and cleared him for sixth grade. After talking it over with his father, Seth agreed and picked a new school to attend – Covington Middle School, where he was placed in their GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program.
Since arriving to Covington Middle, Seth began a tight friendship with Teddy and Rayne Atwater. He also has an antagonistic, yet at times friendly relationship with Desmond Blackshear. All things aside, he has yet to disclose the fact that he skipped the fifth grade with his new, circle of friends.

Seth's academic strengths lie in mathematics, science and computers, three subjects in which he finds fascinating.
