Legal Name: Russell Jun Wu Occupation: Student (Sixth grade), independent comic book publisher Legal Status: Citizen of the United States with no criminal record, still a minor. Place of birth: Los Angeles, California Known relatives: Leonard (father), Grace (mother), David (Older brother), Jae (middle sister) Group affiliation: Covington Middle School Art Club, Special Education Program Base of operations: Studio City, California History: Russell is the youngest child of Leonard Wu, a prominent real estate investor and his wife, Grace Wu, also a real estate investor and school board president-elect of West Valley Unified School District. Both Russell's parents are immigrant from China and Korea, respectfully, and were educated in America. Mr. Wu holds an MBA from Stanford University, while Ms. Wu holds an MBA from Pepperdine University.
Russell's oldest siblings are also high achievers academically. David is currently attending the University of California at Davis on an academic scholarship. Jae is in her sophomore year at Edison Magnet High School in Studio City, California, where she is an honors student maintaining a 4.2 grade point average.
Since as early as the fourth grade, Russell has been identified as a special education student (under Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act). Though there is cohesion in Russell's family and a genuine sense of awareness and advocacy on his mother's part, Russell tends to keep to himself. His reclusive behavior was further compounded by a series of incidents that occurred a day before his 7th birthday and exactly two years later when his family lived in Hancock Park, an upscale community of Los Angeles. This incident remains undisclosed to the general public. There was a mention of it in the local newspaper just days after it occurred to which afterwards, it quickly went away. Besides his family, the only person that Russell has talked to about "the Hancock Park incidents" is a psychologist who has since passed away. This psychologist was the one who encouraged Russell to use art as a tool for therapy to filter out the incident in question. Fortunately, as property values in the San Fernando Valley leaned in favor of a "buyers market", Russell's parents shifted their real estate interests to that region. Thus, the Wus relocated to Studio City before Russell's fourth grade year. Russell attended Robert E. Lee Elementary School and won modest notoriety the summer of his arrival by winning a design contest to update the school's logo - a hornet. From this success, came the development of Russell's personal comic line, Eye/Vee Comics. He has produced four creations: Noble Causes, Stormbringer, The Jersey Devil and his present, most ambitious creation to date, Strykeforce:SFV - a team series of crimefighters based on his current circle of friends. Since arriving to Covington Middle School, Russell has developed solid relationsips with many people, most notably, his art teacher Ms. Arakelyan and the school librarian, Mrs. Thompson. Though he is small circle of friends, he appears to identify much closer with fellow classmates, Teddy Atwater and Vanessa Castro. Skills, abilities and interests: He has near-perfect ability for detail and thus, has the uncanny ability of spatial and depth perception. Russell could walk into a large room filled with people and within seconds will note and detail his surroundings, no matter how large or small, with near-perfect accuracy. This ability makes him an excellent, but meticulous artist. Russell is skilled in various uses of pencils, charcoal, chalks, inks, clay and paint. Once he grabs the concept, he has the ability to sketch or design anything within a matter of minutes without the use to measurement or ratio calculating instruments.
Beyond his artwork, Russell is also a skilled musician, particularly with all stringed instruments. He developed this skill over time through private lessons and regular practice at home. Russell maintains a large, diverse music collection on his personal lap top and mp3 player. Academically, Russell is an average student. His extreme abilities of perception and detail are not easily translated into his academics. Russell has been diagnosed and identified with an undisclosed learning disorder which allows him to qualify as a "special needs" student. Unlike his peer Vanessa Castro, his needs a much less subdued.
