Fortunately, channeling my frustrations with the "Operation Odin" strip got me some genuine results. In case you were wondering, "Adbusters" is a self-congratulatory leftist magazine which prides itself on (surprise, surprise) not running any ads. The publishers seem to think that if their subscribers overpay for a pair of ragged canvas sneakers, with a "hand-drawn logo and sweet spot", this will "crush capitalism" (I direct you to http://www.adbusters.org/cultureshop/blackspot/sneaker ).
"¡Plop!" is a reference to the long-running Chilean comic 'Condorito', introduced to me by Ignacio Santander-Alfonso, writer/illustrator of Argus comic "Sinister Equations" and… I can't remember the name of the other one. He is the "short, bearded cartoonist" who the former Iraqi Information Minister is threatening to throw on the scrapheap of history, and not Kyle Lees. All of Saeed Al-Sahhaf's statements in the final box, by the way, are paraphrasings (not the word I'm looking for, but ah well) of statements he actually made while the tanks rolled towards Baghdad in 2003. I particularly liked his line "We're going to drag the drunken junkie nose of Bush through Iraq's desert, him and his follower dog Blair."
